Making the Most of Autumn

Making the Most of Autumn

Jobs People Do | JobsPeopleDo.com

November is here, bringing cooler temperatures, colourful leaves, and shorter days. With the clocks having gone back an hour this past weekend, many of us are adjusting to darker evenings. The extra hour of sleep may have been welcome, but getting used to the change can take some time!

As autumn gives way to winter, it’s a good opportunity to check in with yourself and your routines. Try to get outside during daylight hours, stay active, and maintain a consistent sleep schedule. With assignments, tests, and other responsibilities piling up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Break your work into manageable pieces, take regular breaks, and make time for activities you enjoy. And don’t forget to appreciate the season! A walk through a colourful park or some fresh autumn air can be a welcome change from studying indoors.

This month’s issue of JobsPeopleDo has plenty of advice to help you through the season. We explore the benefits of stretching regularly, tips for staying focused when studying, and what to do when you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back asleep. We’re even taking a closer look at Daylight Saving Time itself, including whether we should keep changing our clocks twice a year.

November is a great time to think about your future too. For students exploring careers, we have profiles on photographers, teacher assistants, market research analysts, traffic technicians, arborists, and more. We’re also looking at careers in the print industry and encouraging students to learn about the working world through our article on Take Our Kids to Work Day.

If you’re preparing to enter the workforce, check out our advice on choosing the best references for job applications and conducting effective interviews. For those thinking about their finances, we’ve got practical tips on saving money in high school, managing credit card spending, and dealing with unexpected expenses. Developing good financial habits early can make a difference later on.

We’re also exploring important topics around disabilities and accessibility, inclusive education, and reducing waste through reusing and repurposing. And don’t forget to browse our November 2026 scholarships, including opportunities for Indigenous students. Some application deadlines are coming up in December, so now is a good time to get started!

As always, be sure to explore our career videos and interviews with industry pros for more insights into the many opportunities available after school.

The end of the year may be approaching, but there’s still plenty of time to learn something new, work on your goals, and enjoy everything autumn has to offer. Stay warm, take care of yourself, and have a great November!
